Introduction

 

Late Dr.Nataraja Ramakrishna was a celebrity in Indian classical Dance forms. He was awarded Puraskar in 1984 and Akademi Ratna in 2011 by the National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama (Sangeeth Natak Academy), New Delhi for his outstanding contribution to Indian classical dance forms. His main contribution was configuration and promotion of the ancient Andhra Natyam and Perini Tandavam. He passed away in 2011.

Guru Kalakrishna was the resident disciple of Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna from his early youth. He has imbibed the mantle of his Guru. He has been a very accomplished artiste in South Indian Dance Forms. He was awarded Puraskar by the Sangeetha Natak Academy, New Delhi in 2011 for his outstanding performance in Andhra Natyam. He has composed several dance items. He is best known in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States and also in New Delhi for his portrayal of Sathyabhama in BhamaKalapam in a feminine role. He has trained a large number of male and female dance artistes for rendering dance ballets, performances, etc.

Sathya Sai Natyaraamam (SSNa) has been registered vide Regn No: 600 of 2016 Hyderabad South dated 24-06-2016 as a 'not for profit' Cultural Institution with its office at #105, Shivaleela Apts, Begumpet, Hyderabad - 500016. Its aims & objectives are:

  • To promote, propagate, do research and to render performances of each style of Andhra Natyam, Perini Tandavam and other Indian Dances in any part of the world;
  • To establish and to run an Institution of Andhra Natyam, Indian Dances, Nava Janardhan Parijatham, Perini and Temple Dances with a view to training talented male and female artistes;
  • To arrange dance performances in India and aboard by the talented students of the Institution for propagation and to create awareness in the minds of the general public towards the Art;
  • To maintain a library of books, CDs, Audios, etc. on Indian dances, Perini, Temple Dances, etc. and to bring them online;
  • To receive grants-in-aid from the States and Central Govts, and donations from Companies, Trusts, Individuals, etc. and to raise advances repayable, to meet the working needs of the Institution from time to time;
  • To have the power to acquire, receive and hold property of any kind, to construct and maintain buildings including the right to alter or improve them, sell, transfer, purchase etc. for the benefit of the Society, with a view to raising money in such manner as may be deemed fit for or on behalf of the Society; and
  • To undertake such other activities as may be necessary and helpful for achieving the above said objective.

The Principal Natyacharya of the SSNa and its Secretary is Sri Nistala Venkata Rao.
